Dropping an Extremely Digital Bomb at TennoCon

Digital Extremes hosted an unbelievable TennoCon this year! The digital event included announcements of a brand-new MMORPG, a sick demo for an anticipated open-world Warframe update, a Warframe expansion reveal, and more. We provided support every step of the way, locking in top-tier coverage across a range of verticals for each of the groundbreaking announcements that came out of the event.

Every year, Digital Extremes saves its biggest and brightest announcements for its premier summer showcase – so we had to make sure media were hyped well ahead of the show. It all started with the announcement of TennoCon’s date in May when we secured coverage with key North American media, including GameSpot, Game Informer and Shacknews.

In June, Digital Extremes put together an awesome sneak peek for the highly anticipated Warframe expansion “The Duviri Paradox” and secured a place in this year’s Summer Game Fest. With some solid pre-pitching of the trailer under embargo, we locked in placements with CNET, GameSpot and Twinfinite while also making our way into several roundups highlighting the most exciting news of the show.

This year’s TennoCon was overflowing with reveals, so getting press early access to each announcement was essential. We pitched and secured attendance for a virtual press preview event for TennoCon hosted by Digital Extremes. The preview lived up to expectations and built a ton of media hype while offering ample time to prepare for everything at the showcase.

Everything, that is, except for one final bomb: Soulframe, an all-new MMORPG from Digital Extremes. We kept TennoCon’s arguably biggest reveal under wraps to all but select press. We coordinated an exclusive interview with Soulframe Director Steve Sinclair and The Washington Post to share an inside look at the inspirations and themes of Soulframe and the creative journey that led to it.

We also connected Warframe Creative Director Rebecca Ford with Fanbyte for a deeper dive into Warframe’s highly-anticipated expansions and VentureBeat to examine Rebecca’s path to leadership of a live service game.

We followed up with media to lock in a detailed list of embargoes that allowed individual coverage to go live during TennoCon, spreading attention across the multiple announcements. To maximize the impact of the Soulframe news break, we had three sources of information all shared simultaneously: the TennoCon live broadcast, a press release detailing TennoCon’s announcements and our exclusive with The Washington Post.

The wide scope of our outreach immediately following the event led to coverage from top-tier gaming, entertainment, tech, and games trade sites on the day of and throughout the week. Our efforts secured over 100 total articles, with coverage from IGN, GameSpot, Screen Rant, Kotaku, Game Informer and more!

See below for some awesome things press said in their TennoCon coverage:

“The result is a live service game guided by the whims of developers and players alike, with the question, ‘What’s the coolest possible thing we could do here?’ at the heart of countless decisions.”

-Nathan Grayson, The Washington Post

“The trailer displays several aesthetic shots and gameplay moments that fans of Digital Extremes’ sci-fi epic are already in love with.”

Zachary Pilon, Comic Book Resources

“There has never been a better time for new players to try out Warframe…”

-Hank Whitson, Game Rant

Warframe has been active for nearly a decade, so Digital Extremes’ leadership has a proven track record in getting a live-service game to grow and develop.”

“…what seems like the real heart of The Duviri Paradox: making an expansion that’s meaningful to both new players and veterans alike.”

Despite the massive show it just finished, Digital Extremes isn’t slowing down. Keep an eye out for “Veilbreaker” and “The Duviri Paradox,” both set to release this year as free Warframe expansions.
