Charting the Course to Success: Wayfinder and Wonacott Take PAX East by Storm

PAX events are always a good opportunity to showcase games to media, influencers and consumers alike. For Digital Extremes and Airship Syndicate, PAX East was the perfect opportunity to provide new hands-on impressions of upcoming action RPG Wayfinder. But with only a few weeks to prepare, we had to hit the ground running!

The Wonacott team planned for an explosive showing by pitching the announcement that Wayfinder would be venturing to PAX East to our finely tailored media list. We then drafted creative invitations for demos and interviews with succinct messaging that resonated with the media attending the event. We focused on aspects of Wayfinder that press were sure to love, such as the game’s high-octane combat, punchy visuals and homage to old school MMOS such as World of Warcraft.

With our outreach and follow-up tactics, press coordination and event management on point, we secured 26 outlets between hands-on previews and interviews with Airship Syndicate developers. We also promoted a well-attended exclusive press mixer after the main show floor hours, giving press a relaxed space to try the game and meet the team in a more intimate setting.

Kudos to Digital Extremes who took the time to organize a gorgeous and well-organized meeting room space. Everything came out great and made the four-day event run incredibly smoothly! Running point at the show for all media meetings, we also rolled up our sleeves and lent a hand in various positions to answer questions and introduce attendees to the game.

We were elated to see all the positive reactions throughout the event – Wayfinder’s accessible co-op play and the consistent excitement from the Digital Extremes staff made the game a hit with press. From the positive impressions at the show, Airship Syndicate and Digital Extremes were able to pull some key feature quotes, one of them being from MMORPG, which stated “There’s a lot of potential here for a long-running fun game, and I can’t wait to see where they go with it.”

We’re happy to report that even writers that were previously unaware of Wayfinder are now along for the ride. TechRaptor, MMORPG, AppTrigger and more shared great coverage and left their audiences wanting more from our client’s showing. We’re excited to continue the momentum through the game’s next beta and Early Access!
