hello@wonacottpr.comLast week, Wonacott went up to San Francisco to staff an event for the upcoming Darksiders II. We’ve worked with THQ before – we drove the campaign for the Homefront North Korean BBQ food truck (pun intended) that caused a lot of commotion at E3 2010 and again just before the game’s launch in 2011 – and we were excited to have the chance to once again show them what we can do.
We took a team of four up to San Francisco, with VP Alex Josef and Account Supervisor Racheal Caswell on the ground the day before the event to handle some last-minute logistics, and Senior Account Executive Danny Beardsworth and Account Coordinator Alex Van Lepp heading up the morning before the big reveal.

The Regency Center in the heart of the city lent a creepy-but-cool vibe to the affair, with eerie lighting and more than a few skulls on the walls. Guests were greeted with a roaring fire and an open bar, along with some very attractive hostesses to guide them through the space. Once everyone had arrived they were shown into the main hall and the presentation began. Subject Matter Expert Dane Munro gave a lecture on the history of Death, and THQ’s Simon Watts talked through a hands-off demo of never-before-seen Darksiders II content. While some press had interviews with members of the development team from Vigil Games, others socialized in the grand hall, while a DJ spun records behind a screen depicting a scene straight out of Dante’s Inferno. On the way out, everyone got an awesome Death mask as a parting gift.

We’ve already seen a lot of great coverage rolling in from our contacts, including Kotaku, VentureBeat and Destructoid. Overall it was a fun way to extend our relationship with THQ, as well as a chance to catch up in person with media and introduce them to Darksiders II.
Next up: A second preview event in March. Time to start planning!
