Happy Good Friday, everyone - we hope you're having an indulgent day, now that Lent is over! What else does Good Friday mean? It's the last full week you'll have to wait to check out Skullgirls, the new 2D fighting game on XBLA and PSN. Skullgirls publisher Autumn Games is a Wonacott client, and after a year-long campaign, we think the game is poised to upset the old guard of fighting games with a fresh take on the genre.
I feel like this is a leftover April Fool's joke, but as someone who grew up a die-hard Sega fan, the headline that Sonic the Hedgehog co-creator Hirokazu Yasuhara joined Nintendo is practically impossible for me to comprehend. But the Wii U will be an interesting platform for Yasuhara and Super Mario Bros. creator Shigeru Miyamoto to create on.
"Convergence" and "discovery" are still some of the most frequently used buzzwords in the industry. But in whatever the context you see them, I'm sure it's nothing like the latest partnership between Final Fantasypublisher Square Enix and couture fashion house Prada. The two companies partnered up to create a digital runway for the 2012 Prada men's line. While it's another bold step to bring gaming into mainstream, we think that fashion companies would capitalize on the gaming audience by making tshirts along these lines.
Also, if anyone is looking for a soapbox to present some lessons learned in the video game industry, GDC Online in Austin just opened up its call for speakers.
