10 Questions with Wonacott EOQ Chan Lim

by Wonacott Communications

Each month Wonacott honors one outstanding staffer as the Employee of the Quarter (EOQ). For the last quarter of 2011, that honoree is Assistant Account Executive Chan Lim. Chan joined Wonacott in mid-2010 as an intern while he was finishing his graduate degree in Public Relations at USC. After graduating in June 2011 he joined the agency’ s Interactive Entertainment and Technology team full time, bringing to the office a geeky affinity for fast-action role-playing games, gizmos and gadgets, and… sneakers (Chan can often be seen walking around the office in slippers, while the sneakers he wore to work rest comfortably under his desk).

Chan’s infectious laugh didn’t prompt his Wonacott EOQ nomination, but it might have helped solidify it. He is an incredible asset to his clients and his team members, and is the first to volunteer for challenging new tasks. We could tell you a lot more about Chan, but why not let him tell you himself? Here’s a quick 10 Questions with Chan Lim:

Q: Tell us a little bit about what you do at Wonacott.
Chan: I am an assistant account executive on the video games and consumer tech team. I do a lot of work with our video game clients, particularly the Korean MMO publishers. I provide all necessary support for the accounts to run smoothly, from pitching media to coverage tracking to staffing press events.

Q: Why did you get into PR? What do you like about it?
Chan: I wanted to study advertising in college, but USC did not offer advertising as a major. Then, I saw public relations and thought the two were similar enough. So I started studying PR and slowly fell in love with it. I like the “relations” aspect of public relations. I am constantly challenged to think about the relationships among stakeholders such as the target audiences, the media outlets and the clients.

Q: What would Google Chrome prompt as your top eight most visited websites?
Chan: Gamespress.com, Constant Contact, Facebook, Function Fox (time tracking), Compete, Massively, Engadget, Cision

Q: iOS or Android?
Chan: iOS

Q: What are some of your favorite or most used apps?
Chan: Kakao Talk, Facebook, Yelp, Flixster, Maps

Q: If you were stranded on an island and could only have three things with you what would they be?
Chan: A knife, a lighter and a Wilson Volleyball.

Q: Who are your role models?
Chan: My father

Q: What inspires you?
Chan: My family and my girlfriend. Also, the fact that Jason is a Krav Maga instructor and regularly threatens to kick my kneecap.

Q: When I am not at work I…
Chan: Play video games, find new tasty dishes with my girlfriend and clean my shoes.

Q: Advice for anyone starting a career in PR?
Chan: Have fun! Also, believe in and sincerely love your products/services.
