License Shmicense – Wonacott Blows Open Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion Reveal

Licensed videogames do not have the best reputation in the games industry. Quite often they have short development cycles and often ship around the time of a movie or TV series premiere. Over the years media have become more and more disinterested in covering these videogames and instead focus on more high-profile titles. In 2017 Wonacott Communications partnered with international publisher Outright Games to launch a series of licensed games from popular brands including Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion, a brand-new game in the series. Wonacott focused on its open-world design, original voice cast and pedigree of developer Climax Studios to pique the interest of enthusiast press. The message was this is the Adventure Time game fans have been waiting for.

Previous Adventure Time videogames don’t have a strong track record, often garnering very low review scores. The team at Wonacott knew one of the major hurdles would be differentiating Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion from past Adventure Time games and the negative perception around them to make media take notice and care about this lovable cartoon series all over again.
